Areas covered around Reigate
Seven places within a few miles of Reigate town, split between two councils. Reigate and Banstead covers Redhill, Merstham, Kingswood, Earlswood and Woodhatch. Mole Valley covers Betchworth and Buckland.
- Redhill Redhill grew because the railway came: a station in 1841 and a junction by 1844.
- Merstham Merstham is three places in one parish: the old village round Quality Street, the late-Victorian houses up Rockshaw Road, and the London County Council estate below, finished by the early 1970s..
- Betchworth Betchworth sits in Mole Valley district, not Reigate and Banstead, beside the River Mole under Box Hill.
- Kingswood Kingswood is up on the North Downs at roughly 170 to 200 metres.
- Earlswood Earlswood runs south of Redhill to its common, eighty-nine hectares of lakes and grassland.
- Buckland Buckland is a small village west of Reigate on the Reigate Road, in Mole Valley district.
- Woodhatch Woodhatch is the southern edge of Reigate, round the crossroads at Cockshot Hill, Prices Lane and Woodhatch Road.
The two councils treat windows differently. Reigate and Banstead has served Article 4 directions on most of its conservation areas. Mole Valley's directions are confined to parts of Dorking, Brockham and Leatherhead.
